Do you have solutions to meet the needs of our city’s youth, to improve safety in your neighborhood or to ensure equitable access to municipal infrastructure? The city earmarked $45 M for projects proposed and chosen by the population as part of the 3rd edition of the participatory budget. The collection of ideas has now ended. Discover the next steps.

Voting period approaching

In February and March 2025, all people aged 12 and over who live in Montréal, as well as merchants, will be able to choose the projects that the City will carry out. The projects that will be submitted to the vote are based on ideas proposed by the population in the winter of 2024.

The development of ideas into projects

Since the collection of ideas, several steps are taken to analyse the ideas received and develop them into projects:

  • The city has analyze the 880 ideas received, according to eligibility criteria.
  • Mixed committees made up of 34 members from the civil society and 44 city representatives develope the ideas into projects. Thecommittees begin by identifying ideas to be prioritized. Then, they work to improve the ideas and to regroup them, or to adjust their scope to make them feasible.
  • The City assess the technical, regulatory and financial feasibility of the projects developed by the committees. This is to determine which projects could potentially be realized by the city and submitted for voting.
  • Every finalist project is preapproved by the city’s decision-making bodies before to be submitted to the vote in 2025.
