After buying an eBike I no longer use my car
As the pandemic started I decided to buy an electric bicycle for physical activity and also to keep the social distance from others. The more I used my bike the more I loved it and enjoyed it. Now after 6 months, I feel I am completely independent of my car. I use my e-bike as my main means of transportation. My wife has also bought one and use it for her commutes. We carry all our groceries, (even from Costco using a trailer) on our bikes and it has changed our lives. I feel much more healthy physically and more importantly mentally now as I pump my mind with joy and positive energy every day riding my bike. We have also saved a lot on gas and car maintenance since we only use our car for trips outside the city or for intercity trips that are more than 30 kilometers away from our home. Because our bikes have a range of around 70 kilometers, which is more than enough for 90% of our needs.
The only concern is the safe cycling paths, which is very needed. The REV is good but it is NOT ENOUGH! Sherbrook, Cote-de-Niege, Reve-Levesque, Guy, and many more streets need protected cycling paths. I have encouraged many of my friends to do the same thing, but their only concern is safety! Winter is not a big problem, safety is. I believe if the city builds safe infrastructures for cycling on major streets, hundreds of thousands of people will sell their cars.
I hope Montreal becomes Amsterdam of North America one day!
