Create “school squares” in three boroughs, where segments of streets near schools will be landscaped with additional vegetation, and measures will be taken to slow traffic for children to get around safely. Urban furniture and additional vegetation will also make the squares aesthetically pleasing. During the summer months, the plants and trees will provide protection from heat, to avoid temperatures rising more than in other areas of the city. These squares will become play and meeting areas of neighborhood residents.
