Participatory Budget CDN-NDG 2023

Out of the 140 ideas received from residents at the beginning of the spring, some 51 were merged, re-worked, improved and transformed into projects. During the course of the summer, the projects were reviewed to determine their feasibility and compliance with the Participatory Budget Charter. After review, some 23 projects were still in contention for the final citizen workshop aimed at applying the finishing touches.

The 15 projects submitted to a vote are the result of a collaboration with residents on shared needs.

• These projects meet the eligibility criteria set out in the Charter.
• Any person aged 12 or older has the right to vote, as do merchants in the borough.
• One vote per person.
• It is possible to vote online or in person at one of the borough’s four libraries.
• The voting period runs from Wednesday, November 1 to Sunday, December 3, 2023.

Last chance to share your expertise before the popular vote. Here are the 21 projects that still need to be worked on in order to be more complete and selected for the final stage of the public vote. For example, where in the neighborhood should the projects be located? How many units are needed to make the project a success?

1. Bancs publics: Addition of signature or playful public benches at various locations in the borough.
2. Sécuriser nos pistes cyclables: Addition of barriers and bike shelters to protect cyclists.
3. Bibliothèque mobile: Promoting books, reading and activities with a mobile library.
4. Agriculture urbaine collective: Access to agriculture through the creation of temporary collective gardens.
5. Stations d'exercices extérieures: Creation of outdoor gyms in various locations in the borough.
6. Terrain de volleyball: Installation of a volleyball court in Trenholme Park.
7. Intergenerational learning activities: Various activities to facilitate encounters, exchanges and learning between elders, young people and children.
8. Espaces publics sur Sherbrooke: Transforming triangular street corners on Sherbrooke into ephemeral plazas.
9. Création d'une Ruche d'art: A program of encounters and exchanges through artistic practice.
10. Kiosque de prêt d'équipements: Add locations for loaning temporary equipment and games.
11. Prêt de vélos municipaux: Bicycle loans to citizens for medium-term periods (summer, autumn, spring).
12. Pop-up stations for moving day: Temporary goods drop-off and exchange stations in certain neighborhoods during the moving period.
13. Salle de jeux pour enfants l'hiver: Creation of free play areas for children in winter.
14. Poubelles et propreté améliorées: Addition of litter garbage cans and awareness campaign to improve neighborhood cleanliness.
15. Réfrigérateur en libre accès: Addition of open-access refrigerators for sharing foodstuffs between shopkeepers and the general public.
16. Ombrage dans les parcs: Addition of shade near various play areas in parks.
17. Food forest: Creation of a micro forest of nourishing trees.
18. Toilettes publiques accessibles: Addition of free, accessible public toilets.
19. Tiny forest: Creating a fast-growing forest in a small space.
20. Colorer les rues ensemble: Embellish vacant businesses by adding temporary art to their premises.
